Theme of The Game
Mysteries of Egypt has been designed by the guys from Red Rake Gaming. As you might’ve guessed just by reading its title, this pokie is inspired by the Ancient Egypt civilization and by the things that we still don’t know about them.
The graphics are actually high end if you compare them with the many other pokies which take on the same topic.
You have only related symbols on those reels, you have a wall from inside a temple or pyramid in the background, and I just enjoyed the overall style of the design overall. Many of those symbols actually look like they are drawings from a pyramid’s walls.
The symbols do show you various drawings from the walls, with priests, pharaohs, slaves and the Ankh visible on them, among others, but there are also close-up images of the Eye of Ra, of Bast, of a priest and of other related images. There are no unrelated pictures here, which is something that I can appreciate.
Developer
Red Rake Gaming has been established back in 2011, and since then they’ve managed to create a pretty good collection of casino games.
Among those, I’d say that the pokie machines make up the biggest number, but they’re not alone. In addition to the 50 or so pokies, they also have over a dozen casino titles, with video pokers making up the majority of that category.
They translate their games into a dozen different languages, and they launch about 15 new titles each year. I quite enjoyed the quality of the graphics in their games.
How To Play It
The betting system isn’t the most logical one around, but in the end it works pretty much like all the others.
The difference comes from the fact that you can’t change the line bet directly. Instead, you have to pick a total bet value and the number of lines, and this will automatically change the line bet as well. The version of the game that I played had total bets that ranged from 100 to 100,000 coins per spin, using 4 to 4,000 coins per line.
It’s not as expensive as it sounds though, since the coins seem to have a fixed value of a tenth of a cent. The maximum bet, of 100,000 coins, translates into a total bet of just $100.
If you don’t consider the slightly weird betting system, with its ultra low value coins, the rest of the game is pretty normal. You have the usual Spin buttons, you can access a paytable, you change wagers, so there is nothing out of the ordinary in the interface.
Special Features
You have two different wild symbols that you can land in Mysteries of Egypt. One of those is the Scarab Wild, which is the one that applies a multiplier to the wins that it is a part of. With one Scarab you get a 2x multiplier, with two you get 3x, while three of these symbols will apply a 4x multiplier to the wins they contribute to together.
The Normal Wild, as the game itself calls it, is going to show you the Pyramids. These wilds act as regular substitutes for the symbols forming combinations on the lines, and they pay directly as well, if they get a chance. Their best payout gets up to 2,000x.
There are 7 free spins that can be won as well, and you get them by landing three Tutankhamun scatters in any position on the reels. During the free spins, you will be able to collect the scatters, in order to transform character icons into wilds, and to also trigger additional free spins.
Maximum Payouts
With a top payout of 2,000x, the rewards appear to get up to $8,000 usually, or up to $32,000 if there are three wild multipliers present on the reels that round.
Summary
Mysteries of Egypt is a pretty good attempt at this sort of game, especially since there are so many competitors that it can be compared to. I quite enjoyed the end result in this case.
