Where to play?
Theme
King’s Honour presents players with a rather bizarre setup. This newly released game incorporates the best that Barcrest can offer in terms of pokie gaming but manages to deliver it via a gaming system which is quintessentially WMS Gaming.
This Arthurian legend-themed pokie is, in many other ways, a straight ride with generic imagery aplenty, and a wagering range most lovers of this developer’s pokies will be familiar with. That gaming engine needs a closer inspection, though.
Developer
It shouldn’t come as a surprise to learn that Barcrest has “pinched” WMS’ engine here. We commonly see this gaming engine in their colossal reels pokies.
That fact that Scientific Games owns both developers implies that the developers have been allowed to borrow it for this release. In short, the gaming engine means that there are 2 sets of 5 reels and transferrable symbols between the two.
How to play it
You will note that King’s Honour features two sets of reels. The first set of five are the “base game” reels, where most of the action takes place. The second set, away to the right of those, are the colossal reels. There are 12 lines on the base game reels and 100 lines on the colossal reels.
Wagers are cheap enough at $0.10 per spin, but players can up the ante to a hefty $500 per spin if they are suitably flush with cash to burn. Whatever you bet, you will get to play with both sets of reels.
Special features
Stacked Wild symbols: Players who land stacked wild symbols on the base game reel set will be able to see those symbols transfer over to the second, colossal reel set. Wild symbols appear as blue icons with “wild” written across them, and they can substitute for all other icons barring bonus symbols.
If players play with Big Bet Mode activated (at a hefty $20 or $30 a spin) all wilds/bonus icons will transfer over to the colossal reel set, but duplicate themselves on that reel set, giving you wilds (and/or bonus icons) on both reels at once. If a stack of four wilds appears on the reels, a Siege Spin may lock those symbols in place, offering you a re-spin with a chance to land big wins.
Randomly triggered bonus: Known as the King’s Charge, this feature can see a non-winning spin become a winning one, as random symbols are added to the reels to guarantee a cash prize.
Bonus symbols: Bonus symbols appear as the fabled sword in the stone, and they count no matter which set of reels they land on. Players need at least 3 on the first, third and fifth reel of either reel set to trigger a bonus. Should just two bonus icons appear, another type of Siege Spin may randomly be triggered with the bonus icons locked in place, offering players a re-spin to potentially land that missing third bonus symbol.
Wheel bonus: Before you can get to any goodies, you will have to spin a wheel to land either several free spins or bronze, silver or gold cash prizes, which come in at 50x, 150x or 500x your bet multipliers.
Free spins bonus: If you did trigger the free spin feature, you could land extra goodies by pocketing shield symbols on the reels. This click and win feature can deliver Wild Arrows (awards up to 40 wilds per spin), Flaming Wild Arrows (which is the same as above though locked for 3 spins), extra free spins, Black Knight bonuses (all low-paying symbols transform to higher value ones), White Knight bonuses (the lower symbols become high-paying ones and/or wilds) or a Colossal Win Multiplier which is worth up to 5x whatever you win on the rightmost reels, as well as 2 extra spins.
Maximum payouts
Wilds are not the top-paying symbols in King’s Honour; King Arthur is. These stacked symbols can deliver wins worth 500x your stake, just narrowly ahead of the archer.
She can dish out wins worth 400x your total bet. The pokie has an RTP (return to player) rate of between 94% and 97.75%, depending on whether you have Big Bet Mode activated or not, and which Big Bet you are playing with.
Summary
King’s Honour has the potential to deliver some impressive wins. Of course, we’re not fans of the Big Bet Mode, but unlike other Barcrest games, this one does provide a wealth of additional features even without that costly mode being in play.
