Theme of The Game
One of the more unusually designed games you’re likely to see, Pixie Gold is themed around pixies and it has a fantasy setting that is used in plenty of other games released by this industry. The nature theme is visible everywhere you look, from the enchanted forest you will notice in the background, with the homes of the fairies being placed on the branches of the trees, to the various toadstools, ladybugs, snails and forest fruits that are used as symbols.
Developer
The slot’s developer is called Lightning Box Games, a relatively small company that has been creating slot machines since 2004, and working together with bigger developers like Amaya, Quickfire or NYX. They appear to be doing a much better job at making games interesting, and Pixie Gold with its weird layout is a perfect example of this.
How To Play It
Pixie Gold sports one of the most interesting gameplay modes I’ve seen so far. The game has 5 reels, but it uses a total of 8 columns with symbols. The first two and the last two columns are considered individual reels, with three symbols each one. The middle four columns however, are considered to be part of a single reel. To form a three symbol combo you need matching symbols on the first two reels, plus the third one to be on one of the columns 3 to 6. If there are two such symbols on those middle four columns, then instead of getting a four symbol combo you get two combos of three symbols each.
Add the ways to win system that is employed here, and you get a pretty unusual game, which gives you a lot of chances to form your winning combinations, especially the ones with three symbols in them.
The betting options are all available at the bottom, and you use the Down and Up arrows to modify the value of the line bet. It varies between $0.01 and $2, which will bring the total bet up to $100.
The graphics part of the game looks great, there is no question about that. The enchanted forest theme and the use of pixies and various cute insects worked out very well.
Special Features
The slot’s layout is its most impressive feature, that middle reel with four columns being called Reelfecta. It has a total of 16 positions on it and it is used by the various features which can appear in the game.
The main feature would be the Wild Pixie, a symbol which shows you a blonde pixie and which acts as a substitute when it appears on any of the four columns of the 3rd reel. If you’re in bonus pixie spins mode, you also get this symbol on the 2nd reel. The only symbols which can’t be replaced with Wild Pixies are the King Stars.
One other symbol that acts as a substitute is the King Star, but it can only replace K symbols on the reels. However, all columns can have this symbol appear on them, though only once in each case.
A Pixie Spin is what they call a free spin in this game. A mouse that pulls a star shaped cart after him is visible underneath the reels as you play, moving by one position after each spin. You get that free Pixie Spin when the cart is located under a column with a King Star symbol on it. Pixie Spins get Wild Pixie symbols on the 2nd reel as well, plus Lucky symbols are chosen to be used on the Reelfecta reel.
Maximum Payouts
A game like this, which has 1,296 ways to win, will not offer you huge prizes, but that’s alright since it will give you a lot of smaller wins as you play. A 250x multiplier is applied to the line bet if you get a five symbol combo with King symbols in it. The payout would be $500 at most.
Summary
If nothing else, you can expect to have a lot of fun in this game, and to feel like a winner thanks to the many payouts it can offer you. Use it as a distraction from the game that offers you a huge progressive jackpot but which fails to deliver, or when you’re really bored with regular slot machines.
Even with its often delivered prizes, the chances of getting rich aren’t that great since the average RTP is at only 95.42%.
