Theme of The Game
The theme of Mega Boy should feel familiar to any player that has tried arcade titles in the past, specifically when they were most popular, back in the 80s or 90s.
Games back then didn’t have a high resolution, offering 16 bit graphics and a very low quality, which meant that the pixels were showing most of the time. Mario is a great example of the kind of game that would’ve been popular back then, and based on what we see in the background image and on the reels, Mega Boy seems to be inspired by just that kind of arcade.
Developer
iSoftBet is a company that is based in UK, and which offers its games at dozens of different casinos, some of them huge names in the industry. They have licenses from multiple countries, and you can rest assured that you’re safe when you play their titles.
It might not be a big name in the casino industry, more like an average sized developer, but they still have their fair share of wonderful pokie machines. Mega Boy is actually one of my favorites from their collection.
How To Play It
You don’t get to spend a lot of money in Mega Boy. The 25 paylines which are always active will require 25 coins during each round. The coin value is the only option that you can modify, and the range of $0.01 to $0.20 that you can use is not impressive. The highest bet allowed inside will go up to $5.
Normally, the kind of design that is in use here would be considered ugly, but considering that the theme requires such a look, based on the games from the 80s, I’m sure that it will be very appealing for players that started gaming back then. It’s a pretty standard interface, with betting options and buttons at the bottom.
Special Features
The base game seems to rely mostly on wild symbols, but they do get you access to free spins in certain situations.
The first regular wild has a logo with a cloud behind it, and the only way to use it is as a replacement for regular symbols. It will not replace the special characters, and it will not form combinations out of wilds alone.
You will notice that the 3rd reel has a card shaped form in the background, behind the middle symbol. If you get the second wild, which is shaped like a card, to appear there, you will get access to free spins. The card is green, and it has the two characters showing in two opposite corners.
Each character triggers its own set of 10 free spins. The monster has the level 1 free spins and power-ups which involve 2x multipliers, along with stacks of low paying symbols and various types of wilds, which extend or expand to cover other positions on the reel or in neighboring locations.

Summary
I’m not happy at all about the payouts which are promised by Mega Boy, but on the other hand it’s one of the few games to offer this type of theme and with this quality for the design, so I’m sure that fans of the genre will still want to try it out.
