Game Type: Video slot
Paylines: 40
Progressive: No
reels: 5

Theme of The Game

Dragon Shrine’s theme is based on the Chinese version of these great creatures, something that is visible in the way they are drawn and in the architecture of the shrine itself. Both are elements that will be used in Chinese themed pokie machines, so it’s no surprise to see them together in a game.

The problem is that you don’t see them as often as you might like. Though you have dragon and shrine themed symbols in the game, the majority of the positions on the reels are occupied by the poker cards and by gemstones. A light blue background which looks like rays of light will be present behind the reels.

Developer

Quickspin is a company that was established in 2012, in Sweden. In the last four years they’ve designed over two dozen games, pokie machines which have gained the appreciation of players everywhere thanks to the quality of their design and their innovative features.

There is no shortage of high quality titles in their collection, but I will mention just my favorites, pokies like Big Bad Wolf, Gold Lab, King Colossus and Rapunzel’s Tower.

How To Play It

The game relies on the total bet value only, as the option that you can change as needed. The minimum bet will be worth $0.20, while the maximum one will be at $80. The total bet value is used to determine the value of the prizes, not the line bet.

It’s a design that works well for mobile and PC devices alike. It’s the same one that Quickspin uses in their other pokies, so you probably know it already.

The bet is chosen simply by clicking on the Bet section, which will open a pop-up menu from where you can click on the wager you’re comfortable using. The Spin button is on the far right side, at the bottom.

Special Features

One of the things that makes this game different, feature wise, is the presence of a stacked Dragon symbol on reel 1. If the Dragon covers that entire reel, then you get the Respin feature. Those Dragons are going to be used to form combinations as well, and they pay the pokie’s second best prize this way.

The Respin feature starts up if the requirement is met, and it gives you 3 free respins. You get the wild symbols and the Dragons to lock into place for the duration, and this happens to the new ones that land along the way as well.

The regular wild symbol, with a golden background and a blue Wild logo, will be more than capable of forming combinations by itself, paying up to $800 if this happens, but it will also be a replacement for another symbol if the occasion allows for it. It doesn’t apply to the scatter symbol though.

Finally, there is a green shrine, marked Bonus. As a scatter, it will be visible only on the reels from the middle, from the 2nd to the 4th column. You need all three in place, and you get 10 free spins out of it.

The Dragon stacks will be visible both on the 1st and the 5th reels, during the free spins, and they will trigger the Respins from either column. Add to that the chance to form combinations starting from the right as well, not just the left, and the free spins are looking great.

Maximum Payouts

The maximum payout of Dragon Shrine comes from a combo of five wilds, and it pays 10x the total bet, so for a wager of $80 you can expect to win $800.

Summary

Dragon Shrine looks good enough, but not particularly well themed, and it has features that I enjoyed, but it doesn’t pay a lot. In the end, it’s an OK game, but not one I would play in the long run.
