Theme of The Game
For Beowulf, the theme chosen was obviously based on the old poem with the same name. It is probably the oldest long poem that is still known today from the Old English. The location is set in Northern Europe, Beowulf being a hero that helps out the Danish king, Hrothgar, when he’s being attacked by Grendel, a monster.
Beowulf goes on to live a long life as king of his Geats people, but eventually dies as a consequence of the wounds he got from a dragon. It’s a good story, and there have been multiple pokie machines to have this particular theme already.
In this case, we’re looking at medieval castles, and at symbols with longboats, drinking horns, bracelets and three heroes from the story. The final four icons are going to give you card suits, also a popular choice in many games, though not as often used as regular poker cards.
Developer
Pragmatic Play prides itself with their offer of games, over 150 of them being created, in all categories. They design them to be easily accessible to everyone, playable both on mobile and desktop, translated into 17 languages and offered in 78 countries.
The mobile titles number 80 games alone. I’ve seen some impressive looking games in their collection, so that’s one easy reason to like them and their work.
How To Play It
There isn’t much to it, and most titles from Pragmatic Play are going to do the same thing. There will be 40 lines in total, all of them kept active by your bets.
The bet per line will allow you to up the wager to up to 10 coins, and their value will go up to $0.50. The result is a line wager of up to $5, and a total bet of up to $200. The minimum bet seems to be at $0.40.
The Play button replaces the typical Spin text, but it does the same thing. The – and + signs on the sides of this button will open up the betting options menu. The interface is easy to use, the graphics good, so overall this part of the game feels well made.
Special Features
The symbol with Beowulf is the one that shows us a warrior with a black beard and a golden helmet on his head, with some sort of wings on both sides of it. The symbol is chosen to form combinations starting from either side of the screen, not just from the left.
If you get the entire first reel occupied by stacked Beowulf symbols, then you get a Super Respin in return. Special reels are used instead of the regular ones, and on them there will only be Beowulf symbols and empty positions. You start off with three re-spins.
Beowulf symbols that appear will remain on the screen until the end. You’re paid off at the end, for all the Beowulf combinations present on the reels at that time.
The Wild Logo is another one, a more regular feature that will bring you a substitution from time to time, helping some new combo get formed. Scatters can’t use the wild’s help in this case.
We also get a symbol with a round shield and two swords behind it, for the other major feature of Beowulf, the scatter. Between 10 and 20 free spins can be triggered by it, depending on how many times it appears.
Maximum Payouts
The biggest rewards will get up to 2,500x, which can mean $12,500 cash in this game. The respins can potentially bring you quite a few of these winning combos at the same time.
Summary
Beowulf is an interesting release from Pragmatic Play, with good graphics and some cool features which have good potential.
